HOW TO USE FOOL'S GOLD

how_to_use_fools_gold_by_sarah_browne

How to Use Fool’s Gold is a full colour artist’s monograph. It includes essays by curator Tessa Giblin, artist Jeremy Millar, an introduction by Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver Director Nigel Prince, plus texts by graphic designer Chris Lee and anthropologist Marshal Sahlins.

On the occasion of Browne’s exhibitions Second Burial at Le Blanc and How to Use Fool’s Gold the publication has been co-produced by Project Press, Dublin; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver.

Second Burial at Le Blanc will also be exhibited at the Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda and Galway Arts Centre later this year, on tour by Project Arts Centre as part of our Project Catalyst program.

Sarah Browne’s art practice explores our understanding of ‘the economy’ as the dominant metaphor for contemporary social and political relations. She is concerned with forms of non-market exchange such as gift economies, subsistence, subsidies and poaching, which become both the subject and operation of the work. The body of work presented in this publication suggests an acknowledgement of emotional investment in political discourse, and the necessary role of desire in developing new forms of economic and social imagination.

Sarah Browne is part of Project Catalyst, an initiative of Project Arts Centre
