BEST MAN

"Hugely cynical & hilarious... one of the most stylish plays I've seen in quite a while" Sunday Independent

*****"Original, funny and candidly entertaining!" Playstosee.com

“Winter’s ideas are insightful & intelligent – among the most thought-provoking this year” Sunday Times

High-flying real estate agent Kay Keane isn't just earning a living for her family, she's making a killing. Meanwhile, her husband and would-be novelist, Alan, is staked out at home, minding their children and earning 'pin money' by writing best man speeches. Juggling the modern-day demands of job and family is not easy, but this sparring pair seem to have arrived at a win-win situation. That is until Marta moves in. Hired to take care of their children so that Alan can finally write his novel, this sexy, straight-talking Bolivian nanny brings buried tensions to the fore. As Kay stingingly observes, soon the entire house is 'smoking with lust for Nanny'.

Best Man is a devastatingly funny play about family wars and the wreckage caused when estranged parents compete for the spoils of property - and children...

This bold new play from award-winning playwright Carmel Winters deals with the near-taboo topics of sex, power and parentage within modern relationships. Set in the intoxicating height of the boom and, finally, the sober fall of the bust, Best Man prompts a public reckoning of our most private struggles as questions of power within the family are examined with scorching insight.

Following the nationwide success of the high profile B for Baby tour by the Abbey, we are delighted to present a new play from one of Ireland's most exciting writers. Best Man, starring leading Irish actors Derbhle Crotty and Bryan Murray, is sure to become one of the most publicly debated and triumphant plays of the year.

There will be a post-show discussion with writer, Carmel Winters, and Artistic Director of Project Arts Centre, Cian O'Brien, folloing the performance on 17 July.

Best Man is supported by an Arts Council Theatre Project Award. This play was originally commissioned by Abbey Theatre Amharclann na Mainistreach
